Day 1 begins with an early departure from Ho Chi Minh City at 7:00 AM to avoid traffic, heading towards Cu Chi, approximately 70 kilometers away. Upon arrival, delve into the Cu Chi Tunnels, a pivotal complex from the Vietnam War, exploring tunnels, traps, and facilities used by Viet Cong soldiers. Afterward, savor a local lunch at nearby restaurants. In the afternoon, visit neighboring villages to experience rural Vietnamese life, engage with locals, and observe traditional crafts. Overnight accommodations in Cu Chi provide a chance to further absorb the area's historical and cultural richness before continuing your journey.
Start your second day with breakfast in Cu Chi before departing in the late morning for the Mekong Delta. The scenic drive takes approximately 3 hours, leading you to the heart of the delta's lush landscapes and bustling river life. Upon arrival, settle into your homestay, where you'll experience authentic local customs and cuisine. In the afternoon, embark on a boat trip along the Mekong River, exploring floating markets and visiting nearby villages to observe traditional crafts and daily life. The homestay offers a serene atmosphere for you to reflect on the day's adventures, surrounded by the natural beauty of the Mekong Delta.
Test Despite of the fact that Vietnamese government attempts to outlaw the practice, the US Dollars still acts as an alternative currency which is almost completely interchangeable with Vietnam Dong. Many prices, especially for hotels, tours and expensive restaurants, are still quoted in USD, though you can pay in dong if you’d rather - just check what exchange rate they’re using.
For everyday expenses, we recommend you carry a mix of US Dollars cash and Vietnam Dong. For larger items or when the exchange rate works in your favour, use dollars. For cyclos, local food stalls and small purchases, it’s best to use Vietnam Dong. In either case, make sure you always have a stock of small notes so that there is no need to worry about change.
