From the misty peaks of Sapa to the dramatic cliffs of Ma Pi Leng Pass, from the power of Ban Gioc Waterfall to the calm waters of Ba Be Lake, every day delivers raw landscapes and unforgettable riding. Begin with an overnight train from Hanoi to Lao Cai, then ride into crisp mountain air, remote ethnic villages, and jungle-carved valleys.

On the evening of 27th December, we’ll board the overnight train from Hanoi to Lao Cai, settling into a comfortable 4-berth soft sleeper cabin for a restful journey north. The train arrives at Lao Cai station around 6:00 AM the following morning, where we’ll enjoy breakfast before beginning our adventure.
Our journey kicks off in Lao Cai city, located right on the border with China - a key trading hub in Northern Vietnam. After a short break near the international border, we’ll set off towards Sapa, a charming highland town famed for its cascading rice terraces, cool mountain air, and vibrant ethnic culture.
As we ascend into the hills, the ride offers a visual feast of winding roads and lush, dramatic landscapes. We'll stop at scenic viewpoints to take in the sweeping vistas and capture the beauty of Northern Vietnam through our lenses. Overnight at a hotel in Sapa, where crisp air and mountain views welcome you to the next chapter of the adventure.
Day 2: (4Th Oct) Sapa – Xin Man (150km) (B/L/D)
After enjoying breakfast in Sapa, we’ll gear up and begin our ride toward Xin Man, a secluded district in Ha Giang Province renowned for its dramatic mountain terrain and rich tapestry of ethnic cultures. The journey from Sapa to Xin Man is as thrilling as it is scenic—expect winding roads, steep mountain passes, and sweeping views of terraced rice fields carved into the hillsides.
Our first destination is Bac Ha, a quiet town known for its vibrant ethnic markets and the historic Hmong King’s Palace. Along the way, we’ll pass through charming villages inhabited by the Hmong and Dao people, offering chances to pause for photos, soak in the culture, and perhaps share a few words with the locals.
After a lunch break in Bac Ha, we’ll continue deep into one of the least-traveled regions of northern Vietnam. The road narrows and climbs through untouched landscapes where each turn reveals a new perspective—misty valleys, dense forests, and remote hill tribe settlements. As we roll into Xin Man, we’re welcomed by peaceful surroundings and towering mountain silhouettes that feel worlds away from the beaten path.

Day 3: (5Th Oct) Xin Man - Ha Giang (150km) (B/L/D)
After breakfast at a local restaurant, we’ll take some time to explore the nearby market—an authentic and colorful gathering place where you can shop for local handicrafts, snap vibrant portraits, and engage with ethnic minorities such as the Dzao, Flower H’mong, and Nung.
From there, we begin one of the most exhilarating riding days of the trip. The route ahead challenges both skill and spirit as we navigate steep mountain passes and winding jungle trails. Our midday stop will be in Hoang Su Phi, where we’ll enjoy a hearty lunch amidst a region famed for its spectacular rice terraces.
In the afternoon, prepare for a thrilling off-road adventure: a 40-kilometer stretch through dense jungle and remote mountain terrain along the Tay Con Linh range. This is a wild, untouched trail—no villages, no crowds—just you, your bike, and the raw beauty of northern Vietnam. It’s often regarded as the most stunning section of the entire motorbike journey.
Eventually, we rejoin the main road for a smoother 20-kilometer ride into Ha Giang City, where we can unwind. If time permits, we’ll stop at the Ha Thanh waterfall for a refreshing dip and a moment of serenity.

Day 4: (6Th Oct) Ha Giang - Dong Van (150km) (B/L/D)
Today’s ride leads us deeper into the dramatic heart of Ha Giang, as we journey toward the remote frontier town of Dong Van. The road ahead winds through some of the most rugged and awe-inspiring landscapes in Northern Vietnam, offering both thrilling curves and endless visual rewards.
One of the day’s standout moments is the exhilarating ascent of Tham Ma Pass. This serpentine route coils tightly along steep cliffs, revealing sweeping views of mist-shrouded valleys and jagged limestone peaks—a true showcase of the region’s untamed majesty. The ride here is as much about the journey as the scenery, with every bend inviting you to pause and absorb the grandeur of nature.

Day 5: (7Th Oct) Dong Van - Meo Vac - Bao Lac (120km) (B/L/D)
This day leads us through some of the most jaw-dropping scenery Northern Vietnam has to offer, as we ride from Dong Van to Bao Lac. This stretch of road is nothing short of legendary.
We begin the day with a dramatic descent into the majestic Ma Pi Leng Pass, often hailed as the most spectacular mountain pass in the country. Towering limestone cliffs, razor-sharp peaks, and the winding ribbon of the Nho Que River far below create an unforgettable backdrop. Each twist of the road reveals another angle of this raw, highland wilderness—perfect for stopping and capturing once-in-a-lifetime shots.
From the summit, our journey takes a thrilling turn as we follow a narrow single-track trail skirting the cliffs above the river. This challenging ride demands focus and finesse but rewards us with dramatic views and a true sense of adventure as we hug the edges of this remote canyon.
By midday, we arrive in Meo Vac, where we pause for a well-earned lunch and sample the bold, hearty flavors of the region’s ethnic cuisine. Afterward, we trade bikes for bamboo as we float along the Nho Que River on a peaceful raft ride—offering a completely different perspective of the towering cliffs and emerald waters that define this remote landscape.
In the late afternoon, we saddle up once again and continue toward Bao Lac, where we arrive in time to check into a cozy local hotel. As night falls, we relax and reflect on a day filled with adrenaline, beauty, and unforgettable moments etched into the mountain air.
Day 6: (8Th Oct) Bao Lac - Ban Gioc Waterfall (200km) (B/L/D)
Our journey continues with a stunning ride from Bao Lac into the heart of Cao Bang province, a region defined by its dramatic limestone peaks, winding roads, and untamed natural beauty. Today’s route is nothing short of spectacular, offering endless opportunities to soak in the rugged charm of Northern Vietnam.
The day’s pinnacle is the arrival at Ban Gioc Waterfall, one of the most magnificent natural wonders in the country. Straddling the border between Vietnam and China, the falls thunder down a multi-tiered cliff, creating a misty veil that catches the sunlight and paints rainbows over the surrounding greenery. Here, we pause to breathe in the power and serenity of this majestic site—a true icon of the Vietnamese landscape.
From there, the adventure continues as we ride toward Gog Eye Mountain (Núi Thủng), an extraordinary geological formation with a massive round hole piercing through its limestone body. Day 7: (9Th Oct ) Ban Gioc - Ba Be National Park (200km) (B/L/D)
We start the day with breakfast beside the awe-inspiring Ban Gioc Waterfall, savoring one last look at its cascading beauty before setting off for new horizons. Our first destination is Nguom Ngao Cave, a stunning underground world formed over millennia. As we wander through its winding passages, we’re captivated by the otherworldly stalactites and stalagmites—each sculpted by nature into mesmerizing shapes.
From the cave, the journey continues toward Ba Be Lake, winding through scenic highland roads that showcase the untouched charm of Cao Bang and Bac Kan provinces. Arriving at the lake in the late afternoon, we leave our bikes behind and board a boat to glide across the calm, jade-colored waters. Surrounded by towering limestone cliffs, dense jungle, and peaceful coves, the boat ride is a tranquil and soul-soothing experience—offering a fresh perspective on one of Vietnam’s most picturesque freshwater lakes.
As evening settles in, we’re welcomed by a traditional ethnic dance performance, where the rhythms, costumes, and stories of the Tay people come to life. We end the day with a cozy overnight stay in a local stilt house by the lake—immersed in both the cultural warmth and natural serenity of this magical corner of Northern Vietnam.
Day 8: (10Th Oct) Ba Be - Hanoi (200km) (B/L)
On the final stretch of our unforgettable Vietnam motorcycle adventure, we say goodbye to the serene waters of Ba Be Lake. The crisp morning air sets the tone for a reflective ride as we mount our bikes and begin the journey back to Hanoi.
Today’s route winds through the captivating countryside of Northern Vietnam—verdant valleys, forested hills, and quiet villages providing a last glimpse of the region’s timeless beauty. Test Despite of the fact that Vietnamese government attempts to outlaw the practice, the US Dollars still acts as an alternative currency which is almost completely interchangeable with Vietnam Dong. Many prices, especially for hotels, tours and expensive restaurants, are still quoted in USD, though you can pay in dong if you’d rather - just check what exchange rate they’re using.
For everyday expenses, we recommend you carry a mix of US Dollars cash and Vietnam Dong. For larger items or when the exchange rate works in your favour, use dollars. For cyclos, local food stalls and small purchases, it’s best to use Vietnam Dong. In either case, make sure you always have a stock of small notes so that there is no need to worry about change.
The short answer is, there's never a bad time to visit Vietnam! Not all seasons are created equal though and there are pros and cons to each.
March - April is typically the best season in terms of weather to visit Vietnam. Expect sun, mild temperatures and limited rain! This also means busy season, so make sure to book in advance if you plan to visit during these months.
May - August is the hotter times of the year in Vietnam and also the rainier season. Don't be too scared of the rain though! It typically only lasts an hour or two per day, if that. This rarely disrupts travel or our tours and you get to enjoy warmer weather.
September - November are a secret gem of a time to visit Vietnam. The temperature becomes more moderate than the summer, rain stops, and the conditions are perfect for trekking or motorcycle trips. This is also when Full Moon Celebrations happen in Vietnam, so it's a particularly festive season to experience Vietnamese culture.
December - February are the coldest months in Vietnam. During these months you may prefer to visit the southern parts of Vietnam which are warmer, and we have many tours that operate there!
