After breakfast at the homestay, we say goodbye to our friendly hosts and set off toward the refreshing highlands of Moc Chau. This cool plateau is famous for its fragrant tea hills, making it a perfect stop to sample and pick up some of the region’s finest blends. As we ride, you’ll notice the rich cultural tapestry of the area, home to ethnic groups such as the Green H’mong, Dzao, Thai, and Muong.

After lunch in Moc Chau, we continue along the quiet, scenic Road 43, winding through untouched, lesser-traveled landscapes on our way to the Da River. A peaceful ferry crossing over the Van Yen Reservoir offers a soothing pause before we follow a beautiful backroad deeper into the mountains. By late afternoon, we arrive in Phu Yen, a small town in Son La Province, and settle into a rustic homestay, where the warmth and authenticity of local hospitality bring the day to a perfect close.

Day 3: (5Th June, 2026) PHU YEN – NGHIA LO (130 KM / APPROX. 6 HOURS) (B/L/D)
We begin the day by conquering the storied Lung Lo Pass, a rugged 15-kilometer route deeply rooted in Vietnam’s wartime history. This mountain corridor once played a crucial role during the 1954 Battle of Dien Bien Phu, serving as a vital supply artery for Vietnamese forces. Its strategic value made it a constant target, and the French military repeatedly bombed the area in an effort to cripple the resistance. The marks left behind have turned Lung Lo into a lasting emblem of resilience and sacrifice.
Today, the pass is recognized as a national heritage site in Yen Bai Province and offers riders a powerful blend of challenge and reflection. Sweeping viewpoints, untamed mountain scenery, and the lingering echoes of history make this one of the journey’s most unforgettable highlights. By late afternoon, we arrive at our hotel, where a relaxing evening provides the perfect recharge for tomorrow’s adventures.
Day 4: (6Th June, 2026) NGHIA LO – MU CANG CHAI (130 KM / APPROX. 4 HOURS) (B/L/D)
Day 4: (6Th June, 2026) NGHIA LO – MU CANG CHAI (130 KM / APPROX. 4 HOURS) (B/L/D)

After breakfast, we depart Nghia Lo and head toward Mu Cang Chai, following a route that climbs gradually into some of Northern Vietnam’s most breathtaking mountain terrain. The early stretch winds through gentle hills draped in lush tea plantations, before the road ascends toward the legendary Khau Pha Pass—one of the highest and most iconic passes in the entire region.

This ride is filled with postcard-perfect scenery, and we’ll pause at several viewpoints to take in and photograph the sweeping landscapes. Along the way, we pass through the serene Tu Le Valley, a charming rural area known for its terraced rice fields and naturally warm mineral springs.

By late afternoon, we reach Mu Cang Chai, a nationally recognized heritage site celebrated for its magnificent rice terraces carved gracefully into the mountainsides. This area is home to the Hmong people, where traditional dress, enduring customs, and dramatic highland vistas create a rich cultural tapestry. As evening settles in, we’ll check in to a welcoming homestay hosted by the Thai ethnic community—an inviting retreat that offers both comfort and an authentic glimpse into local life.

Day 5: (7Th June, 2026) MU CANG CHAI – SAPA (160 KM / APPROX. 5 HOURS) (B/L/D)
Day 5: (7Th June, 2026) MU CANG CHAI – SAPA (160 KM / APPROX. 5 HOURS) (B/L/D)

Leaving Mu Cang Chai behind, we ride toward the majestic Quy Ho Pass—a route often described as “riding through the clouds.” Wisps of mist drift across towering peaks while vast valleys unfold beneath us, creating some of the most spellbinding scenery in Northern Vietnam. The road winds past slopes covered in tea, corn, and rice, and each curve reveals yet another breathtaking view of rugged mountain wilderness. It’s a ride that brings both exhilaration and a profound appreciation for the raw beauty of the region.

Arriving in Sapa—Northern Vietnam’s iconic highland getaway—we take time to soak in the town’s unique charm. A standout landmark is the Sapa Stone Church, a graceful remnant of the French colonial era that remains a lively gathering place for local ethnic groups. On market days, the area around the church springs to life with vibrant traditional clothing, bustling conversations, and cultural expressions that showcase the rich heritage of the region.

As evening settles over the mountains, we check in to a welcoming homestay, enjoying the cool alpine air and the remarkable cultural diversity that makes Sapa such an unforgettable destination.

Day 6: (8Th June, 2026) SAPA – THAC BA LAKE (230 KM / APPROX. 6 HOURS) (B/L/D)
Day 6: (8Th June, 2026) SAPA – THAC BA LAKE (230 KM / APPROX. 6 HOURS) (B/L/D)

After breakfast at the hotel, we begin our descent from Sapa toward Lao Cai City. Before continuing the journey, we pause for a relaxing coffee beside the Nam Thi River—the natural border between Vietnam and China. It’s a special moment to sit with a warm cup in hand while looking across the water into another country.

From Lao Cai, we follow Road 70 before turning onto the quieter Road 152 toward Luc Yen. The landscape gradually transforms into dense palm forests and peaceful countryside as we ride toward Vu Linh, a tranquil Dao village set along the shores of Thac Ba Lake. Covering more than 23,000 hectares and dotted with over 1,300 islands and forested hills, Thac Ba is Vietnam’s largest man-made lake. Its emerald waters reflect ancient forests and hide intriguing caves like Hum, Cau Cuoi, and Bach Xa.

After lunch, we board a boat for a gentle cruise across the lake’s calm expanse. We’ll stop at a small island where you can take a refreshing swim. Along the way, you’ll glimpse daily life unfolding—villagers paddling wooden boats, wildlife moving through the trees, and the serene rhythm of nature that defines this secluded region. It’s the perfect opportunity to connect with the Dao community and appreciate their peaceful way of life beside the water.

After breakfast, we begin the final leg of our journey, riding southeast along Highway 2 toward the quiet province of Phu Tho. The road traces the Red River as it winds toward its confluence with the Black River, offering gentle curves and wide-open river views. This stretch carries us through Vietnam’s fertile delta plains, where endless rice fields, water buffalo, and vibrant village life reflect the region’s rich agricultural heritage.
After crossing the Black River by bridge, we continue toward Son Tay before merging onto the main route back to Hanoi. We aim to reach the capital before late-afternoon traffic picks up, ensuring a smooth and comfortable return. As we roll into Hanoi, we officially conclude an unforgettable journey through the diverse landscapes, cultures, and stories of Northern Vietnam.

Frequently Asked Questions

Have questions? We've got answers! Find common queries about our adventure programs.

Test Despite of the fact that Vietnamese government attempts to outlaw the practice, the US Dollars still acts as an alternative currency which is almost completely interchangeable with Vietnam Dong. Many prices, especially for hotels, tours and expensive restaurants, are still quoted in USD, though you can pay in dong if you’d rather - just check what exchange rate they’re using.

For everyday expenses, we recommend you carry a mix of US Dollars cash and Vietnam Dong. For larger items or when the exchange rate works in your favour, use dollars. For cyclos, local food stalls and small purchases, it’s best to use Vietnam Dong. In either case, make sure you always have a stock of small notes so that there is no need to worry about change.

The short answer is, there's never a bad time to visit Vietnam! Not all seasons are created equal though and there are pros and cons to each.
March - April is typically the best season in terms of weather to visit Vietnam. Expect sun, mild temperatures and limited rain! This also means busy season, so make sure to book in advance if you plan to visit during these months.
May - August is the hotter times of the year in Vietnam and also the rainier season. Don't be too scared of the rain though! It typically only lasts an hour or two per day, if that. This rarely disrupts travel or our tours and you get to enjoy warmer weather.
September - November are a secret gem of a time to visit Vietnam. The temperature becomes more moderate than the summer, rain stops, and the conditions are perfect for trekking or motorcycle trips. This is also when Full Moon Celebrations happen in Vietnam, so it's a particularly festive season to experience Vietnamese culture.
December - February are the coldest months in Vietnam. During these months you may prefer to visit the southern parts of Vietnam which are warmer, and we have many tours that operate there!
