The name Ba Be originated from a legend that has been handed down from generation to generation, Ba Be lake is meandered by three lakes and then Dau Dang waterfall, Silver waterfall, An Ma and Ba Goa island.
The lovely scene of Ba Be Lake can charm everyone
Legend has it that in the old days, in Bac Kan region, each year the villagers of Nam Mau had a big worshiping ceremony of Buddha, called the Priceless Ceremony. People from all over the region gathered for the big ceremony. One day, an elderly lady came to the village, begging for food. Her clothes were ragged and tattered. Her body had a foul, very unpleasant odor, causing people to shun away.
The old woman begged, but wherever she went, she was chased away. People are afraid she was infected with leprosy. However, there was some mercy for her. It was a widow, staying with her son. She invited the old beggar into the house for food and drink. After that, she agreed to let the old beggar sleep through the night.
The mysterious legend of Ba Be Lake attracts more and more people to join the tours
In the middle of the night, the mother and son suddenly woke up, listening to the intense rumbling noise from the granary. Opening the barn's door, the old beggar was not seen, but a large dragon bent over and roaring like a thunderous thunder, its head resting on the bed and sticking to the ground. They were terrified, awake, afraid, unable to sleep anymore. The morning came, the old beggar coming out from the granary, and told them it would be a destructive flood coming to the town. Then, she gave them a bag of ash to throw all over the house, then disappeared.
The next day, while everyone was attending the Buddhist ceremony in the middle of the village, suddenly, there was a broken water pipe nearby and flooded the village. Everyone was suffocated, except for the mother and son, whose house kept rising with the water level. The mom dropped two pieces of rice husk into the water and immediately turned into two boats. Despite heavy rain and wind, they used the boat to save people.
The legend explains the creation of Ba Be Lake
The whole valley was flooded and turned into 3 immense lakes like the sea, so it was called Ba Be Lake. Water in the three lakes circulated, but boats could not travel from lake to lake, because of the large rock dams impeding. The lake is immense, jade-green water stands out from the majestic mountains and forests.
