Kicking off our motorbike adventure, we rendezvous at the outskirts of the bustling city, where our trusty motorcycles await. Following a comprehensive briefing on the itinerary and a hearty breakfast, we set our course. Our chosen path leads us along the western edge of the city, tracing the meandering Red River. The well-maintained roads are ideal for motorcycle touring, ensuring a smooth and enjoyable ride.

Our inaugural destination is the breathtaking Thac Ba Lake, a natural jewel of the region. From here, our journey takes an adventurous turn as we ascend a rugged trail to reach the captivating Vu Linh village. Nestled beside the tranquil lakeshore, Vu Linh is the ancestral home of the Dzao indigenous people, promising authentic cultural encounters and heartwarming hospitality.

The warm embrace of the Dzao community awaits, as we find lodging in their homestay for our first night. This signifies the commencement of our extraordinary voyage through northern Vietnam, where each twist and turn of the road reveals the true essence of this captivating region.

Day 2: Vu Linh - Ha Giang (Approx 150km) (B/L/D)

After breakfast at a local restaurant, we explore the bustling local market, interact with various ethnic communities, and capture memorable moments. Our motorcycle skills will be put to the test as we tackle challenging mountain passes, with a satisfying lunch in Hoang Su Phi.
In the afternoon, we take on an exciting 40-kilometer off-road journey through dense jungle to conquer the Tay Con Linh mountain range. This segment offers one of the most beautiful and thrilling trails in our Vietnam motorbike tour.
We later rejoin the main road for a more relaxing 20-kilometer ride to Ha Giang, reuniting with Road 2. Depending on the time, we may even visit the Ha Thanh waterfall. The day ends as we check in to our hotel, preparing for the adventures that lie ahead.

Today, we continue our journey through the captivating regions of Quang Ba, Dong Van, and Yen Minh, known for their stunning natural landscapes and resilient communities. These hardworking and friendly people have thrived on rocky farmlands, finding happiness in simplicity.

We take a brief break at an info coffee shop, offering a chance to climb stairs and enjoy picturesque views of Quang Ba. Lunch is in Yen Minh, followed by a visit to the ancient village of Pho Bang with its historic clay brick houses. We'll also explore the intriguing Vuong Palace, a blend of European and Chinese architecture in Quang Ba.

Our day concludes in Dong Van, where we rest overnight in a comfortable hotel, recharging for the adventures that await.

Today's journey takes center stage as we embark on a breathtaking adventure. The highlight of the day is the awe-inspiring 21-kilometer Mã Pí Lèng Pass, often hailed as the most spectacular road in all of Vietnam. Here, colossal cone-shaped limestone mountains soar skyward, adorned with lush green cliffs that gracefully cascade into the steep river valleys below. This is the stuff of travel dreams, a scene that captures the essence of exploration.

Our destination for the day is Bao Lac, a place where the tapestry of ethnic diversity weaves a rich cultural crossroad in Northeast Vietnam. Bao Lac is known for its vibrant Sunday market, a bustling gathering point for numerous ethnic groups from both sides of the border. As we wind down the day, we settle into our hotel accommodation, ready to rest and rejuvenate for more remarkable experiences in the days to come.

Day 5: Bao Lac - Ba Be (Approx 130km) (B/L/D)

Today's adventure takes us on a thrilling blend of rugged terrain, with stretches of broken road and off-road challenges. We'll navigate river crossings and conquer several mountain passes, continuously testing our riding skills along meandering routes. Don't worry; we'll make plenty of stops to take in the stunning scenery and refuel. In total, expect about 6 hours of riding, inclusive of breaks for meals and refreshments.

After this exhilarating day, we reward ourselves with a serene boat trip around Ba Be Lake, the largest freshwater lake in Vietnam. Here, we can swim, relax, and revel in the natural beauty. Our journey continues to Ba Be Lake View Homestay, where we'll savor a dinner of traditional Tay cuisine, complete with rice wine (often known as 'happy water'). The night's accommodations are in traditional stilt houses, offering an authentic and immersive experience.

Day 6: Ba Be - Hanoi (Approx 220km) (B/L)

Our incredible journey comes to a close on this final day as we make our way back to Hanoi. It's a day filled with scenic delights and cultural exploration.

We'll embark on a memorable ride along the western side of Ba Be Lake, heading southward. En route, we'll pass through the renowned city of Thai Nguyen in the Northland, celebrated for the exceptional quality of its tea.

A significant highlight of the day awaits in Tow, where we'll visit the Vietnamese Ethnic Group Museum of Cultures. Here, you can immerse yourself in the rich tapestry of culture, with colorful exhibitions that offer insights into the diverse lifestyles of the 50 tribes residing in Vietnam's hills.

Our journey concludes as we estimate our arrival in Hanoi at around 5:00 P.M. This marks the end of our adventure, leaving you with a treasure trove of memories and experiences from your exploration of Northern Vietnam.

Test Despite of the fact that Vietnamese government attempts to outlaw the practice, the US Dollars still acts as an alternative currency which is almost completely interchangeable with Vietnam Dong. Many prices, especially for hotels, tours and expensive restaurants, are still quoted in USD, though you can pay in dong if you’d rather - just check what exchange rate they’re using.

For everyday expenses, we recommend you carry a mix of US Dollars cash and Vietnam Dong. For larger items or when the exchange rate works in your favour, use dollars. For cyclos, local food stalls and small purchases, it’s best to use Vietnam Dong. In either case, make sure you always have a stock of small notes so that there is no need to worry about change.

The short answer is, there's never a bad time to visit Vietnam! Not all seasons are created equal though and there are pros and cons to each.
March - April is typically the best season in terms of weather to visit Vietnam. Expect sun, mild temperatures and limited rain! This also means busy season, so make sure to book in advance if you plan to visit during these months.
May - August is the hotter times of the year in Vietnam and also the rainier season. Don't be too scared of the rain though! It typically only lasts an hour or two per day, if that. This rarely disrupts travel or our tours and you get to enjoy warmer weather.
September - November are a secret gem of a time to visit Vietnam. The temperature becomes more moderate than the summer, rain stops, and the conditions are perfect for trekking or motorcycle trips. This is also when Full Moon Celebrations happen in Vietnam, so it's a particularly festive season to experience Vietnamese culture.
December - February are the coldest months in Vietnam. During these months you may prefer to visit the southern parts of Vietnam which are warmer, and we have many tours that operate there!
