We begin our journey by collecting our bikes and gearing up just outside Hanoi, ready for an exciting ride ahead. After a detailed briefing about the North Vietnam motorbike tour and a hearty breakfast, we set off on the road. Tracing the western edge of the city, we follow the graceful Red River along smooth, scenic routes that are perfect for riding.
Our first destination is Thac Ba Lake, a breathtaking natural landscape known for its calm waters and peaceful atmosphere. From here, we continue along more rugged paths toward Vu Linh village, home to the Dzao ethnic community. Set beside the lake, this quiet village offers a genuine cultural experience, where we are welcomed with warmth and hospitality.
As evening approaches, we settle into a traditional homestay and enjoy the kindness of our hosts. It’s the perfect start to an unforgettable journey through northern Vietnam -where every stretch of road reveals stunning landscapes and a rich cultural heritage.

Day 2: Day 2 (7th Jan, 2026) VU LINH – HA GIANG (APPROX 190 KM) (B/L/D)

The early morning sunrise in Vu Linh was truly refreshing. We said goodbye to the hospitable and warm-hearted people and began our journey to explore the northeast, heading towards Ha Giang. Famous for its winding roads, gently sloping hills, and tranquil streams, we were transported to the spectacular landscapes of Northern Vietnam.

Today's trip was a blend of natural beauty and cultural exploration, passing through peaceful villages where daily life unfolds naturally. A highlight was crossing the famous monkey bridge – an exciting and adventurous experience. With each bend, the scenery changed, revealing new and unexpected views.

Along the way, we stopped to admire the pristine beauty of this land, where nature and tradition coexist. As we approached Ha Giang, the landscape became even more majestic, with towering mountain ranges and deep valleys stretching to the horizon. In the evening, we rested at a cozy Hmong homestay, immersing ourselves in the local culture. Under the starry sky, we reflected on our wonderful day of cycling, getting ready for the adventures that awaited us tomorrow.

Day 3: Day 3 (8th Jan, 2026) HA GIANG – DONG VAN (APPROX 155 KM) (B/L/D)
Day 3: Day 3 (8th Jan, 2026) HA GIANG – DONG VAN (APPROX 155 KM) (B/L/D)
Continuing our journey to conquer new heights, both literally and figuratively, on motorbikes, we left Ha Giang and headed towards the legendary Dong Van Karst Plateau. Along the exciting and winding northeastern road, we felt the cool breeze on the Tham Ma Pass, gazing into the distance at the vast and majestic landscape.
The journey unfolded before us with spectacular views of limestone mountains and towering cliffs—a nearly endless, pristine beauty. Though challenging, this route offers a worthwhile sense of accomplishment and exhilaration upon completion.
Upon arriving in Dong Van town, we felt as if we had stepped into a stream of ancient history and culture, where heritage values are preserved to this day. Here, you will have the opportunity to enjoy the scenery and experience the warm, welcoming life of the ethnic minority communities. Amidst the ancient scenery atop the mountain, slow down for a moment and enjoy the peace and quiet before continuing your journey of discovery.
Day 4: Day 4 (9th Jan, 2026) DONG VAN – MEO VAC - BAO LAC (APPROX 135 KM) (B/L/D)
Day 4: Day 4 (9th Jan, 2026) DONG VAN – MEO VAC - BAO LAC (APPROX 135 KM) (B/L/D)
By the middle of our journey, we've gathered fascinating experiences with the local people and visited beautiful, rustic yet new places. Let's start the day from Dong Van to Meo Vac and then to Bao Lac, promising an even more exhilarating experience than before.
Conquer the legendary Ma Pi Leng Pass – the famous route you've been looking forward to on this trip, right? The breathtaking heights amidst the mountains and forests, perched on sheer cliffs, offer an adventurous challenge to yourself and test the limits of human and natural forces. The majestic mountain scenery, highlighted by the emerald green Nho Que River winding gracefully, will be one of the unforgettable memories of this Northeast motorcycle tour in Vietnam.
The next stop is Meo Vac – you'll get to experience, explore, and enjoy the most natural aspects of the mountains and forests here with lunch, then return to the Nho Que River to experience traveling on a raft with the "Miao ethnic people," one of the memorable experiences throughout the journey. The next destination on day 4 is Bao Lac, where we will rest and prepare for a campfire evening and cultural activities in the village.
Day 5: Day 5 (10th Jan, 2026) BAO LAC - BA BE LAKE (APPROX 120 KM) (B/L/D)
Day 5: Day 5 (10th Jan, 2026) BAO LAC - BA BE LAKE (APPROX 120 KM) (B/L/D)
One of the main desires in this motorcycle tour is to experience the off-road routes, which are rugged, rocky, uneven, or truly challenging, requiring your skills to cross rivers and streams. After a race against the terrain and with dopamine levels literally reaching their peak, we will enjoy the breathtaking scenery and the championship trophy for today's winner. A feeling of exhilaration, a little dizzy but absolutely amazing.
Relax on a leisurely boat trip, tourists often enjoy immersing themselves in the clear blue waters of Ba Be Lake - one of the largest freshwater lakes in Vietnam. Relax and immerse yourself in the natural scenery until the sun sets. Experience the unique culture with a Tay-style dinner and the distinctive architecture of the houses, designed to protect against wild animals and still standing today. Enjoy local specialties such as rice wine and corn wine, known as "the water of happiness." Ending a long day's journey and looking forward to the best things tomorrow.
Day 6: Day 6 (11th Jan, 2026) BA BE - HANOI (APPROX 220 KM) (B/L)
Day 6: Day 6 (11th Jan, 2026) BA BE - HANOI (APPROX 220 KM) (B/L)

What we got out of the trip were memories, new friends, and a goodbye to the peaceful beauty of Ho Be Lake. As we drove back to Hanoi in the morning, the air made us think. As we drove through the beautiful landscapes of Northern Vietnam, each turn in the road brought back memories of the amazing things we saw and did along the way.

The majestic mountains slowly turned into gentle hills, and soon the calm of the countryside was replaced by the familiar rhythm of city life. As we got closer to Hanoi, the city's lively energy welcomed us back. We drove through the busy suburbs to finish the last few kilometers.

Each turn reminded us of our adventure in the North. By 4 p.m., we were back in Hanoi, which meant that our epic journey was over. Even though the trip is over, we'll always remember the beautiful scenery, the cultural experiences, and the interesting roads. They will always be a reminder of how amazing Northern Vietnam is.

Frequently Asked Questions

Have questions? We've got answers! Find common queries about our adventure programs.

Test Despite of the fact that Vietnamese government attempts to outlaw the practice, the US Dollars still acts as an alternative currency which is almost completely interchangeable with Vietnam Dong. Many prices, especially for hotels, tours and expensive restaurants, are still quoted in USD, though you can pay in dong if you’d rather - just check what exchange rate they’re using.

For everyday expenses, we recommend you carry a mix of US Dollars cash and Vietnam Dong. For larger items or when the exchange rate works in your favour, use dollars. For cyclos, local food stalls and small purchases, it’s best to use Vietnam Dong. In either case, make sure you always have a stock of small notes so that there is no need to worry about change.

The short answer is, there's never a bad time to visit Vietnam! Not all seasons are created equal though and there are pros and cons to each.
March - April is typically the best season in terms of weather to visit Vietnam. Expect sun, mild temperatures and limited rain! This also means busy season, so make sure to book in advance if you plan to visit during these months.
May - August is the hotter times of the year in Vietnam and also the rainier season. Don't be too scared of the rain though! It typically only lasts an hour or two per day, if that. This rarely disrupts travel or our tours and you get to enjoy warmer weather.
September - November are a secret gem of a time to visit Vietnam. The temperature becomes more moderate than the summer, rain stops, and the conditions are perfect for trekking or motorcycle trips. This is also when Full Moon Celebrations happen in Vietnam, so it's a particularly festive season to experience Vietnamese culture.
December - February are the coldest months in Vietnam. During these months you may prefer to visit the southern parts of Vietnam which are warmer, and we have many tours that operate there!
