Leaving Hanoi behind, we ride west toward the peaceful mountains of Hoa Binh Province. The road winds through countryside landscapes, limestone valleys, and scenic mountain passes, offering a beautiful introduction to Northern Vietnam’s winter scenery.
By afternoon, we arrive in Mai Chau, a tranquil valley surrounded by rice paddies and traditional White Thai villages. January brings cool temperatures, morning mist, and blooming peach blossoms across the valley, creating a peaceful mountain atmosphere. Tonight, we stay in a traditional stilt-house homestay and enjoy a home-cooked local dinner.

After breakfast, we continue deeper into the Northwest mountains toward Moc Chau Plateau, famous for its endless tea plantations and cool winter climate. The route passes remote ethnic villages and scenic valleys hidden among mist-covered hills.
In the afternoon, we follow peaceful mountain roads and cross the Da River before arriving in Phu Yen, a quiet town surrounded by untouched natural landscapes. The calm winter atmosphere and authentic local life make this a memorable stop along the journey.

Today’s ride leads us through winding mountain roads and beautiful valleys toward Nghia Lo. Along the way, we cross Lung Lo Pass, a historic route surrounded by dramatic mountain scenery and peaceful countryside landscapes.
January’s cool weather creates ideal riding conditions while morning fog drifting across the valleys adds a magical atmosphere to the journey. By evening, we arrive in Nghia Lo, a peaceful town home to several ethnic minority communities.

This morning, we continue north through the spectacular mountains of Yen Bai Province before climbing toward the Hoang Lien Son mountain range.
The road to Sapa offers breathtaking winter scenery with cloud-covered valleys, towering peaks, and dramatic mountain passes. January is one of the best seasons for cloud hunting in Sapa, with cold temperatures creating beautiful sea-cloud landscapes throughout the region.
Arriving in Sapa by afternoon, we settle into this famous mountain town surrounded by alpine scenery and ethnic minority culture.

Today is free for relaxing and exploring Sapa at your own pace. Visit Muong Hoa Valley, local markets, or nearby Hmong and Dao villages hidden among the mountains.
During January, Sapa becomes especially atmospheric with cold mountain air, drifting clouds, and peaceful winter scenery. On colder mornings, frost may appear around the higher mountain areas near Fansipan Peak.
Enjoy the cozy cafés, local culture, and incredible mountain views before continuing the adventure tomorrow.

Leaving Sapa behind, we ride east toward the legendary mountains of Ha Giang Province. Today’s route takes us through remote highland landscapes, winding mountain roads, and authentic ethnic minority villages rarely visited by tourists.
January fog and cool temperatures create dramatic scenery throughout the day, with mountain peaks disappearing into clouds as we continue deeper into Northern Vietnam’s wild frontier.
By evening, we arrive in Ha Giang City and prepare for the famous Ha Giang Loop ahead.

Today marks the beginning of one of Vietnam’s most iconic motorbike routes as we enter the Dong Van Karst Plateau Geopark.
The ride passes Quan Ba Heaven Gate, Twin Mountains, and the pine-covered hills of Yen Minh before reaching Dong Van. January enhances the dramatic beauty of the limestone mountains with cold winds, drifting clouds, and occasional peach blossoms blooming in Hmong villages.
Tonight, we explore the historic atmosphere of Dong Van Ancient Town.

This morning, we conquer the legendary Ma Pi Leng Pass, considered one of the most breathtaking mountain roads in Southeast Asia.
Towering limestone cliffs plunge into the emerald Nho Que River far below while winter clouds drift across the canyon. Continuing through Meo Vac toward Bao Lac, we ride across remote mountain landscapes inhabited by Hmong, Dao, and Tay communities.
The wild scenery and dramatic winter atmosphere make this one of the highlights of the entire adventure.

Today’s journey takes us through the peaceful mountain region of Cao Bang Province toward Ban Gioc Waterfall, the largest waterfall in Vietnam.
The route winds through limestone valleys, riverside roads, and traditional ethnic villages untouched by mass tourism. During January, mist rising around the waterfall creates an especially magical and photogenic landscape.
Tonight, we stay near Ban Gioc surrounded by Northern Vietnam’s tranquil border scenery.

After breakfast, we continue south toward Ba Be National Park through beautiful countryside roads and forested mountain landscapes.
Arriving at Ba Be Lake, we discover one of Vietnam’s most peaceful natural destinations. January mornings here are often covered in mist, with calm emerald waters surrounded by limestone mountains and traditional Tay villages.
The evening is spent relaxing in a local homestay beside the lake and enjoying the peaceful atmosphere of Northern Vietnam’s countryside.

Our final riding day follows scenic countryside roads back toward Hanoi. Leaving the mountains behind, we pass tea hills, fertile plains, and traditional villages while reflecting on the incredible journey through Northern Vietnam’s most spectacular regions.
Arriving in Hanoi during the afternoon, we conclude an unforgettable 11-day winter motorbike adventure filled with mountain passes, ethnic cultures, cloud-covered landscapes, and legendary roads.

Test Despite of the fact that Vietnamese government attempts to outlaw the practice, the US Dollars still acts as an alternative currency which is almost completely interchangeable with Vietnam Dong. Many prices, especially for hotels, tours and expensive restaurants, are still quoted in USD, though you can pay in dong if you’d rather - just check what exchange rate they’re using.

For everyday expenses, we recommend you carry a mix of US Dollars cash and Vietnam Dong. For larger items or when the exchange rate works in your favour, use dollars. For cyclos, local food stalls and small purchases, it’s best to use Vietnam Dong. In either case, make sure you always have a stock of small notes so that there is no need to worry about change.

The short answer is, there's never a bad time to visit Vietnam! Not all seasons are created
equal though and there are pros and cons to each.
March - April is typically the best season in terms of weather to visit Vietnam. Expect sun, mild
temperatures and limited rain! This also means busy season, so make sure to book in advance
if you plan to visit during these months.
May - August is the hotter times of the year in Vietnam and also the
rainier season. Don't be too scared of the rain though! It typically only lasts an hour or two
per day, if that. This rarely disrupts travel or our tours and you get to enjoy warmer weather.
September - November are a secret gem of a time to visit Vietnam. The temperature
becomes more moderate than the summer, rain stops, and the conditions are perfect
for trekking or motorcycle trips. This is also when Full Moon Celebrations happen
in Vietnam, so it's a particularly festive season to experience Vietnamese culture.
December - February are the coldest months in Vietnam. During these months
you may prefer to visit the southern parts of Vietnam which are warmer, and we have many tours that operate there!
