Arriving in Lao Cai at sunrise, your motorcycle adventure begins as you ride into the mountains toward Sapa. The road climbs steadily, revealing sweeping valleys, misty peaks, and terraced rice fields. This short but scenic ride sets the tone for the journey ahead, offering a perfect introduction to Northern Vietnam’s dramatic landscapes.

Leave Sapa behind and venture deeper into remote mountain regions. The route winds through high passes, quiet valleys, and scattered villages, with constantly changing scenery. As you ride through Bac Ha toward Xin Man, the roads become more rugged, with optional off-road sections adding excitement and challenge. This is where the journey begins to feel truly wild and untouched.

Today’s ride takes you through peaceful highland terrain toward Ha Giang. The roads flow between mountains and valleys, offering a mix of smooth riding and occasional rough patches. As the landscapes grow more dramatic, you begin to sense the scale and beauty of this remote region. Arriving in Ha Giang marks the gateway to the legendary Ha Giang Loop.
Enter the famous Ha Giang Loop, where the ride becomes more intense and unforgettable. Navigate steep climbs, sharp bends, and high mountain passes as you make your way to Dong Van. Towering limestone peaks and deep valleys surround you, creating one of the most spectacular riding experiences in Vietnam.
Continue through the heart of the Ha Giang Loop, riding along dramatic cliffside roads toward Meo Vac. The landscapes are raw and powerful, with winding roads cutting through rugged terrain. As you descend toward Bao Lac, the scenery softens into quieter valleys and peaceful villages, offering a relaxing end to an exhilarating day.
The journey shifts into a more relaxed rhythm as you ride through rolling countryside and tranquil villages toward the stunning Ban Gioc Waterfall. Surrounded by lush greenery and limestone formations, this natural wonder offers a peaceful and breathtaking highlight of the trip.
Today’s ride is long yet calming, taking you through scenic rural landscapes toward Ba Be Lake. As you approach the lake, the atmosphere becomes serene and quiet. Surrounded by forest and still waters, this is the perfect place to relax and unwind after days of adventure.
On the final day, ride back to Hanoi through scenic countryside and tea-growing regions like Thai Nguyen. Along the way, visit the Vietnam Museum of Ethnic Cultures to gain insight into the diverse traditions of Northern Vietnam. Test Despite of the fact that Vietnamese government attempts to outlaw the practice, the US Dollars still acts as an alternative currency which is almost completely interchangeable with Vietnam Dong. Many prices, especially for hotels, tours and expensive restaurants, are still quoted in USD, though you can pay in dong if you’d rather - just check what exchange rate they’re using.
For everyday expenses, we recommend you carry a mix of US Dollars cash and Vietnam Dong. For larger items or when the exchange rate works in your favour, use dollars. For cyclos, local food stalls and small purchases, it’s best to use Vietnam Dong. In either case, make sure you always have a stock of small notes so that there is no need to worry about change.
