Leave the busy streets of Hanoi behind and ride toward the countryside along the Red River. The scenery gradually shifts into rolling hills and limestone mountains as you approach Hoa Binh.

Arriving in Mai Chau, you’ll find a peaceful valley home to the White Thai ethnic group. Spend the afternoon wandering through local villages, walking across rice fields, or simply relaxing in the quiet surroundings. In the evening, enjoy a traditional dance performance before settling into a cozy stilt house for the night.

Day 2: (4th May, 2027) Mai Chau – Phu Yen (190 Km | Approx. 6 Hours) (B/L/D)

After breakfast, head toward Moc Chau, a highland area known for its tea plantations and cooler climate. Take time to enjoy the scenery and learn about the ethnic communities living in the region.

Continue along Road 43 toward the Da River, where a short ferry crossing offers wide views of the surrounding mountains. The ride then follows quiet countryside roads to Phu Yen, where you’ll stay in a welcoming local homestay.

Day 3: (5th May, 2027) Phu Yen – Nghia Lo (130 Km | Approx. 6 Hours) (B/L/D)

Today’s ride takes you over Lung Lo Pass, a route known for both its winding roads and historical significance. The climb offers wide views across the mountains, making it one of the most memorable stretches of the journey.

After descending, continue through valleys and rural landscapes before reaching Nghia Lo. Check in and enjoy a well-earned rest after a full day on the road.

Day 4: (6th May, 2027) Nghia Lo – Mu Cang Chai (130 Km | Approx. 4 Hours) (B/L/D)

Ride north through some of the most scenic highland terrain in northern Vietnam. The road passes tea hills and rolling landscapes before climbing toward Khau Pha Pass, one of the country’s most famous mountain routes.

Along the way, stop at viewpoints overlooking Tu Le Valley, known for its terraced rice fields. Arrive in Mu Cang Chai and settle into a traditional homestay surrounded by breathtaking scenery.

Day 5: (7th May, 2027) Mu Cang Chai – Sapa (160 Km | Approx. 5 Hours) (B/L/D)

Today’s ride leads through dramatic mountain scenery toward O Quy Ho Pass, one of the highest routes in Vietnam. The road climbs into cooler air, with wide views across valleys and distant peaks.

Arriving in Sapa, explore a town where ethnic culture meets a more lively atmosphere. Visit local landmarks and enjoy the mountain setting before resting for the night.

Day 6: (8th May, 2027) Sapa – Thac Ba Lake (230 Km | Approx. 6 Hours) (B/L/D)

Leave Sapa and descend toward Lao Cai, stopping along the Nam Thi River, which marks the natural border with China.

Continue along Road 70 toward Luc Yen, then ride on to Thac Ba Lake. In the afternoon, take a boat trip across the lake, passing small islands and quiet coves. Relax, swim, and enjoy the peaceful surroundings.

Day 7: (9th May, 2027) Thac Ba Lake – Hanoi (180 Km | Approx. 5 Hours) (B/L)

After breakfast, leave the calm waters of Thac Ba Lake behind and begin the final ride toward Hanoi. The road follows a mix of quiet countryside routes, passing through small villages, farmland, and local markets where daily life unfolds at a steady pace.

As you ride along stretches that trace the Red River, the scenery remains gentle and open, offering a relaxed contrast to the mountain roads of previous days. It is a good time to enjoy the final moments on the bike, with fewer climbs and more flowing sections of road.

Gradually, the landscape begins to change as you approach the outskirts of Hanoi. Traffic builds, the rhythm quickens, and the energy of the city returns. Arriving in the afternoon, the journey comes full circle, ending a week of riding through some of the most scenic and authentic regions of northern Vietnam.

Test Despite of the fact that Vietnamese government attempts to outlaw the practice, the US Dollars still acts as an alternative currency which is almost completely interchangeable with Vietnam Dong. Many prices, especially for hotels, tours and expensive restaurants, are still quoted in USD, though you can pay in dong if you’d rather - just check what exchange rate they’re using.

For everyday expenses, we recommend you carry a mix of US Dollars cash and Vietnam Dong. For larger items or when the exchange rate works in your favour, use dollars. For cyclos, local food stalls and small purchases, it’s best to use Vietnam Dong. In either case, make sure you always have a stock of small notes so that there is no need to worry about change.

The short answer is, there's never a bad time to visit Vietnam! Not all seasons are created equal though and there are pros and cons to each.

March - April is typically the best season in terms of weather to visit Vietnam. Expect sun, mild temperatures and limited rain! This also means busy season, so make sure to book in advance if you plan to visit during these months.

May - August is the hotter times of the year in Vietnam and also the rainier season. Don't be too scared of the rain though! It typically only lasts an hour or two per day, if that. This rarely disrupts travel or our tours and you get to enjoy warmer weather.

September - November are a secret gem of a time to visit Vietnam. The temperature becomes more moderate than the summer, rain stops, and the conditions are perfect for trekking or motorcycle trips. This is also when Full Moon Celebrations happen in Vietnam, so it's a particularly festive season to experience Vietnamese culture.

December - February are the coldest months in Vietnam. During these months you may prefer to visit the southern parts of Vietnam which are warmer, and we have many tours that operate there!
