We leave Hanoi and head west, leaving the busy city behind as we start our smooth on-road journey toward Mai Chau. Riding powerful big bikes, we follow scenic highways lined with green hills and quiet villages, enjoying the open road and light mountain curves.

Along the way, we pass Hoa Binh Lake, where calm emerald water and tiny forested islands create a peaceful, picture-perfect landscape. The smooth asphalt and wide roads make this a relaxing and beautiful ride, ideal for big bike touring.

In the afternoon, we arrive at Mai Chau, a tranquil valley surrounded by limestone mountains and rice fields. There’s time to wander through the local villages or simply rest and enjoy the fresh air before dinner. Afterward, we experience a traditional Thai dance show before settling down for the night. We’ll spend the night in Thai stilt houses.

Day 2: (4th April) MAI CHAU – PHU YEN (190KM / APPROX. 6 HOURS) (B/L/D)

After a delightful breakfast in our homestay, bidding farewell to the warm villagers, we embark on a smooth and scenic ride from Mai Chau toward the charming highlands of Moc Chau. The wide, curving mountain roads are perfect for big bikes, offering breathtaking views of green valleys, terraced hills, and the open countryside along the way.

Upon arriving in Moc Chau, we stop for lunch at a local restaurant. This cool plateau, famous for its tea plantations and fresh dairy products, is an ideal place to rest and recharge. The surrounding region is home to many ethnic minorities, such as the Green H’mong, Dzao, Thai, and Muong, adding cultural richness to the day’s journey.

After lunch, we continue on a picturesque on-road route following Road 43 toward Phu Yen, tracing the gentle curves of the Da River. The smooth tarmac winds alongside tranquil water and limestone mountains, creating one of the most beautiful riding sections of the trip. After crossing the Van Yen ferry, we enjoy the final stretch toward the quiet mountain town of Phu Yen.

Nestled in Son La Province, Phu Yen welcomes us with its peaceful atmosphere. We check in at our comfortable hotel, ending another rewarding day of big bike touring through the scenic Northwest.

Day 3: (5th April) PHU YEN – NGHIA LO ( 130 KM / APPROX. 6 HOURS) (B/L/D)

As the morning sun brightens the mountain air, we set out from Phu Yen and follow smooth, winding roads toward the stunning highlands of Bac Yen and Ta Xua. The ride offers wide, curving asphalt and gentle mountain passes, perfect for big bikes. Along the way, we are surrounded by misty hills and endless views of terraced fields, creating a truly captivating on-road experience.

We stop for lunch near Ta Xua, a region known for its cloud-covered peaks and tranquil atmosphere. While off-road routes here are famous among adventure riders, we stay on the main paved road, which still offers magnificent scenery without the rugged terrain. Over a local Vietnamese meal, we relax and enjoy the peaceful charm of the mountains before continuing our journey.

In the afternoon, we ride through the scenic valleys that connect Bac Yen to Nghia Lo, one of the most picturesque on-road stretches of Northern Vietnam. The open landscapes, winding tarmac, and traditional stilt houses along the way make for perfect photo opportunities and quiet moments to take in the beauty of the countryside.

Arriving in Nghia Lo by late afternoon, we settle into our hotel and unwind after a satisfying day’s ride. The town’s calm and welcoming atmosphere offers the perfect place to rest and prepare for the next leg of our journey.

Day 4: (6th April) NGHIA LO – MU CANG CHAI (130 KM / APPROX. 4 HOURS) (B/L/D)

After breakfast, we continue our on-road journey from Nghia Lo to Mu Cang Chai. The ride takes us through a breathtaking mountain landscape, where rolling hills and endless green tea plantations stretch along smooth, winding roads. As we ascend higher into the northern highlands, the air becomes cooler and the scenery even more dramatic.

We’ll cross the Khau Pha Pass, one of the four greatest mountain passes in Northern Vietnam — a favorite among big bike riders for its wide curves, stunning panoramas, and safe, well-paved tarmac. Along the way, we make several photo stops to capture the spectacular views of valleys and terraced fields below. Passing through Tu Le Valley, a picturesque area at the foot of the pass, we are treated to postcard-perfect scenery of rice paddies and small wooden houses scattered across the hills.

In the afternoon, we arrive in Mu Cang Chai, a district famous for its majestic terraced rice fields — recognized as a National Heritage Site of Vietnam. The area is home to the Hmong ethnic minority, whose colorful traditional clothing and simple mountain lifestyle add charm and character to the region.

We spend the night in a local Thai ethnic homestay, enjoying a peaceful evening surrounded by the tranquility of the mountains.

Day 5: (7th April) MU CANG CHAI – SAPA (160 KM / APPROX. 5 HOURS) (B/L/D)

We start our day from Mu Cang Chai, continuing our on-road adventure toward Sapa. The route takes us through one of Northern Vietnam’s most beautiful mountain regions, with smooth winding roads surrounded by terraced rice fields, tea plantations, and peaceful villages. Riding through the cool mountain air, we pass along gentle curves and rolling hills that make this section a true pleasure for big bike enthusiasts.

The highlight of the day is crossing the legendary O Quy Ho Pass — one of Vietnam’s highest and most breathtaking mountain passes. The paved road winds through clouds and cliffs, revealing panoramic views of the Hoang Lien Son mountain range. Every turn offers a new perspective, combining the thrill of the ride with the majesty of nature.

By afternoon, we arrive in Sapa, the famous hill town that sits high above the clouds. Once a retreat during the French colonial era, Sapa remains a cultural and scenic gem. One of its most iconic landmarks is the Sapa Stone Church, standing proudly in the town center. Surrounded by bustling markets and ethnic minority gatherings, it’s a perfect place to feel the vibrant mountain spirit and capture memorable photos.

Day 6: (8th April) SAPA EXPLORATION (B/L/D)

After a hearty breakfast, our day of exploration in Sapa begins with the deep rumble of big bikes echoing through the misty morning air. We set off on an on-road journey through winding mountain passes and peaceful valleys, where the rhythm of the ride harmonizes perfectly with the quiet beauty of the highlands.

Our route takes us along smooth, scenic roads connecting Sapa with nearby ethnic villages such as Lao Chai, Ta Van, and Cat Cat, each offering its own charm and cultural richness. The emerald rice terraces unfold on both sides of the road, glistening under the soft sunlight — a timeless symbol of Sapa’s natural grace.

We make several stops along the way to visit local markets, enjoy panoramic viewpoints, and capture the breathtaking scenery. Every curve reveals a new picture: rolling mountains, hanging clouds, and small waterfalls hidden among the hills. Lunch is served at a local restaurant overlooking the valley, a perfect break before continuing our exploration.

As the afternoon unfolds, the smooth road leads us back toward Sapa town, where the vibrant mountain life comes alive. The day’s journey combines the thrill of the open road with the serene charm of this highland paradise.

We return to our hotel in Sapa, the engines resting after a fulfilling day of discovering the natural and cultural beauty that makes Sapa so unforgettable.

Day 7: (9th April) SAPA – THAC BA (230 KM / APPROX. 6 HOURS) (B/L/D)

After breakfast at the hotel, we take our big bikes down from Sapa toward Lao Cai City, descending along smooth, winding roads with sweeping mountain views. Upon arrival, we stop for coffee on the bank of the Nam Thi River, marking the natural border between Vietnam and China. Sitting by the riverside, we can enjoy the morning breeze and the fascinating view across the border before continuing our ride.

We then follow Road 70, cruising through open highways and peaceful countryside landscapes, before turning onto Road 152 toward Luc Yen. The route is a rider’s delight — smooth tarmac lined with palm forests, small villages, and occasional glimpses of emerald-green hills. The gentle curves and tranquil atmosphere make this a relaxing yet scenic on-road journey.

By late afternoon, we arrive at Vu Linh, a village of the Dao ethnic group, nestled on the shores of Thac Ba Lake, the largest man-made lake in Vietnam. Covering over 23,000 hectares and dotted with more than a thousand small islands, Thac Ba is a mesmerizing expanse of calm blue water surrounded by lush hills and forest reflections.

After lunch, we enjoy a boat ride on the lake — stopping by an island for swimming and soaking in the peaceful scenery. Here, we observe local life along the water, the quiet paddling of wooden boats, and the serene lifestyle of the Dao people living among the islets.

We end the day with dinner by the lake, surrounded by the calm and timeless beauty of Thac Ba.

Day 8: (10th April) THAC BA - HANOI (180 KM/ APPROX. 5 HOURS) (B/L)

After breakfast, we ride southeast on Highway 2 and then branch off to the sleepy town of Phu Tho. We follow the edge of the Red River along the dyke, almost to the point where it merges with the Black River after which they flow together to Hanoi. By now we are very much in the lowlands of the delta plains and the north’s main agricultural areas.

Crossing the Black River by a bridge, we pass through Son Tay and then return to Hanoi on the highway. We should be back to Hanoi before rush-hour (4 pm) because traffic’s getting busier and busier.

Test Despite of the fact that Vietnamese government attempts to outlaw the practice, the US Dollars still acts as an alternative currency which is almost completely interchangeable with Vietnam Dong. Many prices, especially for hotels, tours and expensive restaurants, are still quoted in USD, though you can pay in dong if you’d rather - just check what exchange rate they’re using.

For everyday expenses, we recommend you carry a mix of US Dollars cash and Vietnam Dong. For larger items or when the exchange rate works in your favour, use dollars. For cyclos, local food stalls and small purchases, it’s best to use Vietnam Dong. In either case, make sure you always have a stock of small notes so that there is no need to worry about change.

The short answer is, there's never a bad time to visit Vietnam! Not all seasons are created

equal though and there are pros and cons to each.

March - April is typically the best season in terms of weather to visit Vietnam. Expect sun, mild

temperatures and limited rain! This also means busy season, so make sure to book in advance

if you plan to visit during these months.

May - August is the hotter times of the year in Vietnam and also the

rainier season. Don't be too scared of the rain though! It typically only lasts an hour or two

per day, if that. This rarely disrupts travel or our tours and you get to enjoy warmer weather.

September - November are a secret gem of a time to visit Vietnam. The temperature

becomes more moderate than the summer, rain stops, and the conditions are perfect

for trekking or motorcycle trips. This is also when Full Moon Celebrations happen

in Vietnam, so it's a particularly festive season to experience Vietnamese culture.

December - February are the coldest months in Vietnam. During these months

you may prefer to visit the southern parts of Vietnam which are warmer, and we have many tours that operate there!
