Leaving Hanoi behind, we ride west toward the peaceful mountains of Hoa Binh Province. The road winds past limestone cliffs, shimmering reservoirs, and quiet farming villages, offering a scenic and gentle introduction to Northern Vietnam’s rugged landscapes.

By afternoon, we arrive in Mai Chau, a tranquil valley surrounded by rice paddies and traditional Thai villages. After settling into a welcoming stilt-house homestay, enjoy a home-cooked dinner and an evening cultural performance featuring local music and dance.

After breakfast, we climb into the cool highlands of Moc Chau, where rolling tea plantations and misty hills create a refreshing mountain atmosphere. The ride continues through remote villages inhabited by Thai, Hmong, and Dao communities.

In the afternoon, we follow scenic Road 43 and cross the Da River by local ferry before continuing to Phu Yen. Tonight, we stay with a local family and experience the warm hospitality of the mountains.

Today’s journey leads us across the historic Lung Lo Pass, a dramatic mountain road closely linked to Vietnam’s wartime history. Towering peaks and deep valleys create a ride that is as meaningful as it is scenic.
By evening, we arrive in Nghia Lo, a peaceful town nestled in fertile valleys and home to several ethnic minority communities.

This morning, we ride through the beautiful Tu Le Valley before ascending the legendary Khau Pha Pass, one of Northern Vietnam’s most spectacular mountain roads.
In the afternoon, we reach Mu Cang Chai, a region renowned for its extraordinary terraced rice fields and vibrant Hmong culture.

Continuing north, we conquer the majestic Quy Ho Pass, where sweeping curves and cloud-covered peaks provide one of the most unforgettable rides of the expedition.
Descending into Sa Pa, we discover a lively mountain town rich in cultural diversity and surrounded by breathtaking alpine scenery.

After breakfast, we leave the cool highlands of Sapa and descend through dramatic valleys toward the tranquil waters of Thac Ba Lake.
Upon arrival in Vu Linh Village, we board a small boat to explore the lake’s calm emerald waters and forested islands. The day ends with a traditional Dao homestay and a memorable evening beside the lake.

Test Despite of the fact that Vietnamese government attempts to outlaw the practice, the US Dollars still acts as an alternative currency which is almost completely interchangeable with Vietnam Dong. Many prices, especially for hotels, tours and expensive restaurants, are still quoted in USD, though you can pay in dong if you’d rather - just check what exchange rate they’re using.

For everyday expenses, we recommend you carry a mix of US Dollars cash and Vietnam Dong. For larger items or when the exchange rate works in your favour, use dollars. For cyclos, local food stalls and small purchases, it’s best to use Vietnam Dong. In either case, make sure you always have a stock of small notes so that there is no need to worry about change.

The short answer is, there's never a bad time to visit Vietnam! Not all seasons are created equal though and there are pros and cons to each.
March - April is typically the best season in terms of weather to visit Vietnam. Expect sun, mild temperatures and limited rain! This also means busy season, so make sure to book in advance if you plan to visit during these months.
May - August is the hotter times of the year in Vietnam and also the rainier season. Don't be too scared of the rain though! It typically only lasts an hour or two per day, if that. This rarely disrupts travel or our tours and you get to enjoy warmer weather.
September - November are a secret gem of a time to visit Vietnam. The temperature becomes more moderate than the summer, rain stops, and the conditions are perfect for trekking or motorcycle trips. This is also when Full Moon Celebrations happen in Vietnam, so it's a particularly festive season to experience Vietnamese culture.
December - February are the coldest months in Vietnam. During these months you may prefer to visit the southern parts of Vietnam which are warmer, and we have many tours that operate there!
