We kick off our journey from Hanoi, heading northeast through the Red River Delta's flat farmlands and quiet rural roads. As we ride deeper into Lang Son Province, the scenery transforms - rice paddies give way to lush hills, granite outcrops, and winding mountain passes.
The road climbs gradually, revealing panoramic views of limestone peaks and deep green valleys. Traffic thins out, and the cool mountain air sets the tone for the adventures ahead. By late afternoon, we’ll arrive in Cao Bang, a peaceful highland town surrounded by rugged cliffs and river-carved gorges.

After breakfast, we ride northeast along quiet, scenic roads flanked by jagged limestone mountains and emerald rice terraces. The journey leads us to the breathtaking Ban Gioc Waterfall, where cascading water flows dramatically between Vietnam and China - an awe-inspiring natural spectacle.
Next, we explore the nearby Nguom Ngao Cave, filled with shimmering stalactites and underground chambers. From here, the route turns west, winding through remote valleys and ethnic villages untouched by mass tourism.
The ride to Bao Lac features rolling hills, terraced slopes, and peaceful stilt-house communities scattered along the road. By evening, we arrive in Bao Lac - a quiet mountain town nestled deep in the northern ranges.

We start the day with a thrilling ride into the Dong Van Karst Plateau, a UNESCO Global Geopark known for its dramatic limestone formations and deep river gorges. The road climbs through rugged cliffs and remote H’mong villages, offering jaw-dropping views at every turn.
The highlight of the day is the legendary Ma Pi Leng Pass - a winding mountain road that hugs vertical cliffs high above the emerald Nho Que River. We’ll stop here to take in one of Vietnam’s most iconic landscapes.
After a short break in Dong Van, we continue our descent south through Yen Minh’s pine forests, passing through valleys dotted with clay-walled houses and terraced farms. By late afternoon, we reach Ha Giang City, the gateway to the northern frontier.

Today we’ll ride west, leaving behind the Ha Giang rocky plateau and entering the cloud-covered valleys of Tay Con Linh mountain range. The roads are challenging but rewarding, winding through forests and terraced hills. We eventually descend into Lao Cai Province and climb toward the highland resort town of Sapa. With its French colonial charm, misty valleys, and diverse ethnic population, Sapa offers a welcome change of scenery.

Overnight at a cozy homestay or boutique hotel in Sapa.

Today is yours to relax and explore at your own pace. Sapa is located in the Hoang Lien Son mountains and is home to the highest peak in Indochina, Fansipan (3,143 meters). There are two fantastic ways to spend your free day:
  • Option 1: Fansipan Peak & Cat Cat Village
Take the train from Sapa center to the cable car station and soar up the mountain to Fansipan’s summit. After lunch, visit Cat Cat Village, home to the Black H’mong people, and explore its beautiful terraced fields and traditional homes. This is a photogenic spot but quite touristy.
  • Option 2: Trek to Lao Chai – Ta Van
For a deeper cultural experience, trek down to Muong Hoa Valley. Pass through Lao Chai and Ta Van villages, home to the H’mong and Giay minorities. These communities live among breathtaking rice terraces and welcome travelers with open arms. The full trek takes 5–6 hours and covers around 12–15km.

Bidding farewell to Sapa, we ride through the winding roads of the northwest, descending from the highlands into the green valleys of Yen Bai Province. As we approach Mai Chau, the scenery opens into a wide, sunlit valley surrounded by limestone mountains and emerald rice fields. The final stretch into the village takes us along tree-lined country roads, where water buffalo graze and farmers tend to their fields.
Arrive in Mai Chau by late afternoon and settle into a traditional stilt house. In the evening, enjoy a hearty local dinner and optional ethnic dance performance.

In the afternoon, your ride continues, offering more scenic views and encounters with locals. As we leave the karst landscapes of Phong Nha behind, the terrain shifts to rolling hills and open countryside. We pass old wartime landmarks and cross the Ben Hai River, once the dividing line between North and South Vietnam.
By afternoon, we reach the imperial city of Hue, nestled on the banks of the Perfume River. Once the capital of the Nguyen Dynasty, Hue welcomes us with its ancient charm and relaxed atmosphere.

Depart from Hue in the morning and set out on your motorcycle journey to Hoi An. You'll travel through scenic landscapes, with winding roads that lead you to the coastal town of Hoi An. Once you arrive in Hoi An, check in at your accommodation and spend the afternoon exploring the enchanting streets, historic sites, and vibrant markets of this UNESCO World Heritage town. Enjoy the evening in Hoi An, which is known for its atmospheric lantern-lit ambiance.

As you approach Mang Den, often referred to as the "second Da Lat" for its cool climate and serene atmosphere, you'll be greeted by pine forests and peaceful lakes. End the day in Mang Den, where you can relax and enjoy the tranquil surroundings. Spend the night in Mang Den.

Start your day in the tranquil town of Mang Den and embark on a journey south through the scenic Central Highlands. Pass through lush forests, rolling hills, and small villages as you make your way toward Buon Ma Thuot. Along the route, ride past Pleiku and the historic Ia Drang Valley battlefield, a site of significant events during the Vietnam War.
Arrive in Buon Ma Thuot, renowned as Vietnam's coffee capital, where the finest coffee is produced in abundance. Take some time to explore this vibrant city, rich in history and culture. Spend the night in a comfortable hotel in Buon Ma Thuot, ready for another day of adventure.

This should be an easy ride towards the coast. As you leave the Tay Son highlands behind, and about 30 km from Nha Trang to the north, you rejoin Highway 1 and take the picturesque coastal road. The Vietnam motorcycle tour continues with enchanting emerald green waters and scenic fishing boats that look like tiny gems all along the way, until you reach the popular tourist destination of Nha Trang.
You’ll spend the night in a hotel in Nha Trang.

End your day with a fresh seafood dinner at a beachfront restaurant, listening to the calming sound of the waves.
This day is all about relaxation and recharging in the peaceful beauty of Nha Trang.

After yesterday’s relaxation day, you are ready to ride today’s 150-kilometer mountainous trail that will unveil some of the most famous footage that you might have seen in the Top Gear Vietnam show, as played by BBC, in 2008. You head to Central Highland and reach the City of Love, Dalat. It is a very favorite destination for both locals and the French, due to its extraordinary beauty, majestic waterfalls, evergreen forests, mesmerizing lakes, the best flower gardens found in the country, and fresh and tasty agricultural products. It has always been a pleasant oasis for those that wanted an escape from the lowlands’ high temperatures.
With more than many places to see, you can spend the day visiting Da Lat’s highlights, which could include the gardens, the Valley of Love, the key pagodas, the waterfalls, or admire the architecture and beauty of the cathedral, the convent, and the university.
You’ll spend the night at Da Lat.


Day 18: DA LAT - CAT TIEN NATIONAL PARK (APPROX 200 KM) (B/L/D)

Riding on Road 20, you head for the National Park of Cat Tien that was used as a Vietnamese militia headquarters, during the Vietnam War. It is a park that has endured much suffering, as it was massively sprayed with herbicides during the war. Up to this day, you cannot find proper vegetation and tree growth in the land, and it is predominantly covered with grass and bamboo trees.
You’ll spend the night in a resort in Cat Tien National Park.

Despite the relatively short route, today’s trip will be rather tiring as the traffic as we enter Saigon can be mind-blowing. The ride ends as soon as we reach the train station. Test Despite of the fact that Vietnamese government attempts to outlaw the practice, the US Dollars still acts as an alternative currency which is almost completely interchangeable with Vietnam Dong. Many prices, especially for hotels, tours and expensive restaurants, are still quoted in USD, though you can pay in dong if you’d rather - just check what exchange rate they’re using.

For everyday expenses, we recommend you carry a mix of US Dollars cash and Vietnam Dong. For larger items or when the exchange rate works in your favour, use dollars. For cyclos, local food stalls and small purchases, it’s best to use Vietnam Dong. In either case, make sure you always have a stock of small notes so that there is no need to worry about change.

The short answer is, there's never a bad time to visit Vietnam! Not all seasons are created equal though and there are pros and cons to each.
March - April is typically the best season in terms of weather to visit Vietnam. Expect sun, mild temperatures and limited rain! This also means busy season, so make sure to book in advance if you plan to visit during these months.
May - August is the hotter times of the year in Vietnam and also the rainier season. Don't be too scared of the rain though! It typically only lasts an hour or two per day, if that. This rarely disrupts travel or our tours and you get to enjoy warmer weather.
September - November are a secret gem of a time to visit Vietnam. The temperature becomes more moderate than the summer, rain stops, and the conditions are perfect for trekking or motorcycle trips. This is also when Full Moon Celebrations happen in Vietnam, so it's a particularly festive season to experience Vietnamese culture.
December - February are the coldest months in Vietnam. During these months you may prefer to visit the southern parts of Vietnam which are warmer, and we have many tours that operate there!
