Set off early from Hanoi and ride toward the peaceful northeast, where the landscape gradually opens into quiet countryside and rolling hills. The route leads you to Thac Ba Lake, often described as the “Ha Long Bay in the mountains,” with its calm waters and scattered green islands. Enjoy a relaxed lunch along the way before settling into the lakeside atmosphere, where the day ends with a beautiful sunset reflecting across the water.

After breakfast, continue deeper into the mountains as the roads become more winding and dramatic. This is where the journey truly begins to feel like an adventure. Riding toward Ha Giang, you enter one of the most iconic regions in Vietnam, known for its breathtaking scenery and legendary routes. The anticipation builds as you approach the famous Ha Giang Loop, where every turn reveals a new perspective of the rugged landscape.
Ride north toward Dong Van through some of the most spectacular terrain in the region. Conquer Tham Ma Pass, where the road curves sharply along steep rocky mountains, offering incredible views from above. As clouds drift across the peaks, the scenery becomes even more dramatic. In the afternoon, arrive in Dong Van Ancient Town and take time to explore its unique stone architecture and rich cultural heritage.
Begin the day with one of the most unforgettable rides of the trip. Travel from Dong Van to Meo Vac, crossing the legendary Ma Pi Leng Pass, widely considered one of the most stunning mountain roads in Vietnam. Stop along the Nho Que River, where emerald waters flow between towering cliffs, creating perfect photo moments. Continue to Bao Lac, a quiet mountain town where you can relax and enjoy the cool, misty atmosphere.
Leave Bao Lac and ride toward Ban Gioc Waterfall, one of the most impressive natural wonders in Southeast Asia, located right on the border between Vietnam and China. Along the way, pass through scenic valleys and limestone landscapes that define this region. Upon arrival, take time to admire the powerful cascades and surrounding greenery before settling into your accommodation near the falls for a peaceful evening.

Start the day with a visit to Nguom Ngao Cave, known for its vast chambers and striking formations. Continue the journey to Ba Be Lake, one of Vietnam’s largest natural freshwater lakes. Once there, enjoy a calm boat ride across the lake, surrounded by dense forest and towering limestone cliffs. In the evening, experience local culture through traditional music and performances by ethnic communities.
Ride back toward Hanoi through quiet rural landscapes, passing small villages and peaceful countryside along the way. The final stretch offers a slower pace, giving you time to reflect on the journey. Arrive in the city in the afternoon, marking the end of a truly memorable adventure across Northeast Vietnam.

Test Despite of the fact that Vietnamese government attempts to outlaw the practice, the US Dollars still acts as an alternative currency which is almost completely interchangeable with Vietnam Dong. Many prices, especially for hotels, tours and expensive restaurants, are still quoted in USD, though you can pay in dong if you’d rather - just check what exchange rate they’re using.
For everyday expenses, we recommend you carry a mix of US Dollars cash and Vietnam Dong. For larger items or when the exchange rate works in your favour, use dollars. For cyclos, local food stalls and small purchases, it’s best to use Vietnam Dong. In either case, make sure you always have a stock of small notes so that there is no need to worry about change.
