Leaving Hanoi behind, we ride north along quiet backroads that follow the Red River through fertile countryside and peaceful rural villages. As the scenery becomes more mountainous, the route leads toward the emerald waters of Thac Ba Lake, one of Northern Vietnam’s most beautiful inland lakes.
A final scenic stretch brings us to Vu Linh, a tranquil village inhabited by the Dzao ethnic community. Here, we are welcomed into a traditional lakeside homestay and experience genuine local hospitality, home-cooked cuisine, and a peaceful atmosphere beside the lake.

After breakfast, we continue through quiet valleys and rural landscapes dotted with streams, rice fields, and traditional villages. Along the way, we cross a classic monkey bridge, offering a memorable and authentic glimpse into daily life in the countryside.
As we approach Ha Giang, dramatic limestone mountains begin to dominate the horizon. By late afternoon, we arrive in the region’s gateway town and settle into a welcoming Hmong homestay surrounded by mountain scenery and rich cultural traditions.

Today’s ride enters the world-famous Dong Van Karst Plateau Geopark, a UNESCO-recognized region celebrated for its extraordinary geological formations and remote mountain landscapes.
The route includes the scenic Tham Ma Pass, where a series of tight switchbacks winds through towering rock formations and rugged highland terrain. Passing traditional Hmong villages and dramatic viewpoints, we arrive in Dong Van, a historic stone town known for its ancient architecture and distinctive atmosphere. Overnight in a comfortable hotel.

One of the most unforgettable riding days begins as we cross the legendary Ma Pi Leng Pass. Towering cliffs and panoramic views over the emerald Nho Que River create one of the most spectacular landscapes in all of Vietnam.
After descending to Meo Vac, we enjoy a peaceful bamboo raft excursion on the river, offering a unique perspective of the dramatic canyon. In the afternoon, we continue along remote mountain roads to Bao Lac, a quiet frontier town surrounded by rugged peaks and ethnic minority communities.

Today we journey east through some of Northeast Vietnam’s most scenic and least-traveled roads toward the magnificent Ban Gioc Waterfall.
Along the way, we stop at Nui Thung Mountain for sweeping panoramic views of the surrounding karst landscape. By afternoon, we arrive at Ban Gioc, one of Asia’s most impressive waterfalls, where powerful cascades plunge across the border between Vietnam and China. Overnight at a comfortable resort near the waterfall.

In the evening, enjoy a cultural performance and overnight in a welcoming lakeside homestay.

Test Despite of the fact that Vietnamese government attempts to outlaw the practice, the US Dollars still acts as an alternative currency which is almost completely interchangeable with Vietnam Dong. Many prices, especially for hotels, tours and expensive restaurants, are still quoted in USD, though you can pay in dong if you’d rather - just check what exchange rate they’re using.

For everyday expenses, we recommend you carry a mix of US Dollars cash and Vietnam Dong. For larger items or when the exchange rate works in your favour, use dollars. For cyclos, local food stalls and small purchases, it’s best to use Vietnam Dong. In either case, make sure you always have a stock of small notes so that there is no need to worry about change.

The short answer is, there's never a bad time to visit Vietnam! Not all seasons are created equal though and there are pros and cons to each.
March - April is typically the best season in terms of weather to visit Vietnam. Expect sun, mild temperatures and limited rain! This also means busy season, so make sure to book in advance if you plan to visit during these months.
May - August is the hotter times of the year in Vietnam and also the rainier season. Don't be too scared of the rain though! It typically only lasts an hour or two per day, if that. This rarely disrupts travel or our tours and you get to enjoy warmer weather.
September - November are a secret gem of a time to visit Vietnam. The temperature becomes more moderate than the summer, rain stops, and the conditions are perfect for trekking or motorcycle trips. This is also when Full Moon Celebrations happen in Vietnam, so it's a particularly festive season to experience Vietnamese culture.
December - February are the coldest months in Vietnam. During these months you may prefer to visit the southern parts of Vietnam which are warmer, and we have many tours that operate there!
