December is one of the most rewarding times to ride across Vietnam. While winter settles across Europe and North America, Vietnam offers a remarkable contrast of climates, landscapes, and cultures. From the cool mountain air of the north to the warm tropical weather of the south, every stage of this expedition reveals a different side of the country.
This 14-day motorcycle adventure takes riders from Hanoi to Saigon through mountain valleys, historic wartime routes, imperial cities, coastal passes, highland plateaus, and tropical forests. Designed for riders seeking sunshine, adventure, and unforgettable roads, this journey showcases the extraordinary diversity of Vietnam from north to south.

Leaving Winter Behind in the Mountains of Mai Chau
Our journey begins as we leave Hanoi and head west toward the mountains of Hoa Binh Province. Quiet countryside roads, limestone formations, and traditional villages provide a perfect introduction to northern Vietnam. As we approach Mai Chau, cool mountain air and peaceful valley scenery create an unforgettable first day on the road.
Following Quiet Roads Through Northern Vietnam
Today's ride takes us through fertile valleys, forested hills, and traditional farming communities. Away from the busy tourist routes, we experience a more authentic side of Vietnam while enjoying ideal riding temperatures and scenic countryside roads.
Into the Limestone Kingdom of Phong Nha
The landscape gradually transforms as towering limestone mountains begin to dominate the horizon. By afternoon, we arrive in Phong Nha-Ke Bang National Park, one of Southeast Asia's most spectacular natural regions and home to some of the world's largest cave systems.
Riding the Legendary Ho Chi Minh Trail
Following remote sections of the Ho Chi Minh Trail, today's route delivers some of the finest riding in Vietnam. Dense forests, sweeping curves, mountain valleys, and minimal traffic combine to create a truly memorable adventure riding experience.
From Mountain Frontiers to Imperial Heritage
Leaving the western mountains behind, we descend toward Vietnam's central plains. Arriving in Hue, the former imperial capital, we discover a city rich in royal history, cultural heritage, and unique culinary traditions.
Conquering the Iconic Hai Van Pass
One of the most famous roads in Asia awaits today. The Hai Van Pass offers breathtaking views of mountains, coastline, and the East Sea. After descending toward Da Nang, we continue to the lantern-lit streets of Hoi An.
A Well-Earned Pause in Vietnam's Most Charming Town
Take time to explore Hoi An's ancient streets, riverside cafés, local markets, and nearby beaches. This rest day provides a welcome balance between adventure and relaxation before we head deeper into the Central Highlands.
Into the Cool Highlands of Central Vietnam
Leaving the coast behind, we climb into the mountains of central Vietnam. The route passes through remote landscapes, ethnic minority communities, and dense forests before reaching Mang Den, a peaceful highland retreat known for its cool climate and pine-covered hills.
Across Vietnam's Coffee Country
Today's ride crosses the heart of the Central Highlands. Rolling hills, fertile volcanic soil, and endless coffee plantations define the landscape as we travel toward Buon Ma Thuot, Vietnam's coffee capital.
Descending Toward the Tropical Coast
The road gradually descends from cool mountain plateaus toward Vietnam's sunny coastline. Sweeping mountain curves give way to ocean views before we arrive in Nha Trang, one of the country's most popular seaside destinations.
Sunshine, Sea Breezes and Island Escapes
Enjoy a relaxing day beside the sea. Explore nearby islands, enjoy fresh seafood, or simply unwind on the beach while soaking up the warm tropical atmosphere of southern Vietnam.
Climbing Into the Mountains of Da Lat
Today's route follows one of southern Vietnam's most enjoyable motorcycle roads. As we climb away from the coast, tropical scenery gives way to pine forests, flower farms, and the cool mountain climate of Da Lat.
Leaving Da Lat behind, we descend into southern Vietnam's lowland forests. The area surrounding Cat Tien National Park is home to one of the country's most important rainforest ecosystems and provides a final encounter with Vietnam's natural beauty.
Completing the Ultimate Winter Escape
Our final ride takes us toward the vibrant energy of Saigon. From mountain valleys and historic trails to tropical beaches, highland plateaus, and rainforest landscapes, this expedition has revealed the many faces of Vietnam. Arriving in Saigon marks the successful completion of an unforgettable motorcycle adventure across the entire country.

Test Despite of the fact that Vietnamese government attempts to outlaw the practice, the US Dollars still acts as an alternative currency which is almost completely interchangeable with Vietnam Dong. Many prices, especially for hotels, tours and expensive restaurants, are still quoted in USD, though you can pay in dong if you’d rather - just check what exchange rate they’re using.
For everyday expenses, we recommend you carry a mix of US Dollars cash and Vietnam Dong. For larger items or when the exchange rate works in your favour, use dollars. For cyclos, local food stalls and small purchases, it’s best to use Vietnam Dong. In either case, make sure you always have a stock of small notes so that there is no need to worry about change.
