Continue through the rolling tea hills of Moc Chau before crossing the peaceful waters of the Da River aboard a local ferry, entering remote highland regions rich in cultural diversity and untouched scenery. The adventure deepens as you conquer legendary mountain routes including the historic Lung Lo Pass and the spectacular Khau Pha Pass, where panoramic views stretch endlessly across layered valleys and terraced hillsides.
Ride onward into the magnificent landscapes of Mu Cang Chai, home to some of Vietnam’s most iconic rice terraces, before reaching the cool mountain retreat of Sapa, where ethnic traditions, mist-covered peaks, and sweeping valleys define the atmosphere of the far north.

Leaving the bustling streets of Hanoi behind, we ride toward the peaceful landscapes of Northern Vietnam, following scenic roads to the calm waters of Hong Son Lake. Surrounded by limestone mountains and scattered green islands, the route offers a gentle and rewarding introduction to the adventure ahead.
By afternoon, we arrive in the beautiful Mai Chau Valley, where traditional stilt houses sit among rice paddies and quiet village paths. After time to relax or explore the surrounding area, enjoy an evening cultural performance featuring traditional Thai music and dance. Tonight’s stay in a local stilt house offers an authentic glimpse into the warm hospitality and daily life of the Thai ethnic community.

After breakfast, we leave Mai Chau and climb toward the cool highlands of Moc Chau, a region famous for its endless tea plantations and fresh mountain air. Along the way, we pass through remote villages inhabited by Green H’mong, Dzao, Thai, and Muong communities, offering a fascinating look into the cultural richness of the northwest.
Following lunch, we continue along the quiet and scenic Road 43 before crossing the peaceful waters of the Van Yen Reservoir by local ferry. The route then winds deeper into the mountains on smaller backroads leading to Phu Yen, a quiet town in Son La Province known for its welcoming atmosphere and laid-back charm. This evening, settle into a rustic homestay for a relaxing and memorable overnight experience.

Today’s ride takes us across the historic Lung Lo Pass, a rugged mountain route deeply connected to Vietnam’s wartime history. During the Battle of Dien Bien Phu in 1954, the pass served as a vital supply route and endured heavy bombardment from French forces, leaving behind powerful reminders of resilience and sacrifice.
Now recognized as a national heritage site, Lung Lo Pass combines dramatic mountain scenery with historical significance, making it one of the most meaningful rides of the journey. By late afternoon, we arrive in Nghia Lo, where a comfortable evening at the hotel allows time to rest before the next stage of the adventure.

After breakfast, we continue toward Mu Cang Chai, riding through rolling hills lined with tea plantations before ascending the spectacular Khau Pha Pass, one of the most iconic mountain roads in Northern Vietnam.
The route offers endless panoramic viewpoints, with photo stops overlooking the beautiful Tu Le Valley, famous for its layered rice terraces and natural hot springs. By afternoon, we reach Mu Cang Chai, a nationally recognized heritage area celebrated for its breathtaking terraced landscapes carved into the mountainsides over generations.
Here, Hmong traditions remain deeply rooted in everyday life, visible through colorful traditional clothing and enduring local customs. Tonight, enjoy a warm homestay experience hosted by the Thai ethnic community.

This morning’s ride leads us toward the legendary Quy Ho Pass, often referred to as the gateway through the clouds. Mist drifts across towering mountain ridges while deep valleys unfold below, creating one of the most spectacular riding sections in Northwest Vietnam.
Arriving in Sapa, we explore the unique atmosphere of this famous mountain town, known for its cultural diversity and dramatic alpine scenery. Highlights include the historic Sapa Stone Church, a colonial-era landmark that becomes especially lively during local market gatherings as ethnic communities fill the town with vibrant colors and energy.
Tonight, relax at a welcoming homestay surrounded by cool mountain air and the distinctive character of Vietnam’s northern highlands.

Enjoy a slow morning and relaxed breakfast before spending the day exploring Sapa at your own pace. With no fixed schedule, today offers the perfect opportunity to unwind while discovering more of the region’s mountain scenery and local culture.
You may choose to ride through the surrounding valleys, visit villages such as Cat Cat or Ta Phin, or simply stop along the way to admire the landscapes and capture photos. For those preferring a quieter experience, Sapa’s cool climate and peaceful atmosphere make it an ideal place to relax, enjoy a herbal bath, or recharge before the final days of the adventure.
This flexible day allows you to experience Sapa in whichever way feels most enjoyable and comfortable.

After breakfast, we descend from Sapa toward Lao Cai, stopping for coffee beside the Nam Thi River, which forms the natural border between Vietnam and China. Continuing along Road 70 before turning onto the quieter Road 152, the scenery gradually shifts into peaceful countryside framed by palm forests and rolling hills.
By midday, we arrive in Vu Linh, a traditional Dao village located on the shores of Thac Ba Lake. After lunch, board a local boat and cruise across the lake’s calm emerald waters, passing limestone islands and quiet fishing communities. There will be time to stop at a small island for swimming while observing daily lakeside life and the enduring traditions of the Dao people.
The peaceful setting provides a perfect contrast to the mountain roads conquered earlier in the journey.

On the final day, we ride southeast along Highway 2 through the fertile landscapes of Phu Tho Province, following the Red River as it approaches its meeting point with the Black River. The route passes endless rice fields, quiet farming villages, and lively countryside scenes that showcase the agricultural heart of Northern Vietnam.
After crossing the Black River, we continue toward Son Tay before joining the main road back into Hanoi. We aim to arrive before the late-afternoon traffic, bringing this unforgettable 8-day Northwest Vietnam motorbike adventure to a memorable close.

Test Despite of the fact that Vietnamese government attempts to outlaw the practice, the US Dollars still acts as an alternative currency which is almost completely interchangeable with Vietnam Dong. Many prices, especially for hotels, tours and expensive restaurants, are still quoted in USD, though you can pay in dong if you’d rather - just check what exchange rate they’re using.

For everyday expenses, we recommend you carry a mix of US Dollars cash and Vietnam Dong. For larger items or when the exchange rate works in your favour, use dollars. For cyclos, local food stalls and small purchases, it’s best to use Vietnam Dong. In either case, make sure you always have a stock of small notes so that there is no need to worry about change.

The short answer is, there's never a bad time to visit Vietnam! Not all seasons are created equal though and there are pros and cons to each.
March - April is typically the best season in terms of weather to visit Vietnam. Expect sun, mild temperatures and limited rain! This also means busy season, so make sure to book in advance if you plan to visit during these months.
May - August is the hotter times of the year in Vietnam and also the rainier season. Don't be too scared of the rain though! It typically only lasts an hour or two per day, if that. This rarely disrupts travel or our tours and you get to enjoy warmer weather.
September - November are a secret gem of a time to visit Vietnam. The temperature becomes more moderate than the summer, rain stops, and the conditions are perfect for trekking or motorcycle trips. This is also when Full Moon Celebrations happen in Vietnam, so it's a particularly festive season to experience Vietnamese culture.
December - February are the coldest months in Vietnam. During these months you may prefer to visit the southern parts of Vietnam which are warmer, and we have many tours that operate there!
