Hua Ma Cave, Ba Be Lake

Hua Ma Cave is a famous tourist attraction of Ba Be in the Ba Be National Park area, and most people who join a Ba Be Lake tour are in love with this place. The cave is located on the Leng river and belongs to Pac Ngoi village, Quang Khe commune, Ba Be district, Bac Kan province. Hua Ma cave lies in the middle of Lon Lon mountain, which stays in the middle of Leo Pen (meaning Ghost Forest in local language) with astonishing dense green trees.

According to local legend, the Ghost Forest used to be the place where the demons resided, then a court general went on patrol here and heard the howl of the souls of the militia who joined the court against the enemy but could not sublimity. The army officer set up a camp right next to the river Leng and slaughtered the horse, took the horse's head to make a sacrifice to heaven and earth. After the sacrifice, the howls disappeared and over the years grew extremely majestic stalactites. That is also the origin of the name of the cave, because “Hua Ma” means “Horse Head” in ethnic language.

Lon Lon mountain foot is located at an altitude of 350 meters above sea level. The road from the foot of the mountain to the cave gate has been built into stairs. To reach the cave entrance, you must climb 300 meters. The cave door is 3 meters wide and 5 meters high. The cave is very wide, about 1 hectare, the length is more than 700 meters, the ceiling has a wide and high place up to 40 – 50 meters, with many spectacular cliffs and stalactites. Hua Ma cave is currently not known by many tourists, but it is definitely a place worth to visit and often included in Ba Be Lake tours.

Dau Dang Fall, Ba Be Lake

Dau Dang Waterfall lies between two limestone mountain ranges on the Nang river. The Nang River, after running under Lung Nham Mountain to form Puong cave, flows to Hua Tibet, is blocked by hundreds of large and small rocks stacked with a slope of about 500 meters, forming a magnificent Dau Dang waterfall including three steps, each cascade from 3-4 meters in length. This tourist attraction in Ba Be Lake is also the place where fried fish is found, one of the rare species of fish with tens of kilograms nowadays.

Besides the astonishing sceneries, you can also visit many interesting places from Dau Dang Fall. From Dau Dang waterfall to walk about 300 meters, visitors can take a boat to visit the eco-tourism site of Na Hang hydroelectric lake (in Tuyen Quang province) and visit Bac Me (in Ha Giang province) as well.

Widow Island

Widow Island (also known as Po Gia Mai) is a lovely small island located in the middle of Lake 1 (Pe Leng) of Ba Be Lake. The island is made up of small rocks, stacked on top of each other, the trees on the island are green all year round, the roots of the trees drop down to embrace the rocks like a rockery in the middle of the lake. The small but lovely Widow Island

Legend has it that the island is the home of two kind widowed mothers and children who took husks from a fairy, grained and split them into two wooden canoes to save the people in the great flood of Ba Be Lake. Pac Ngoi Village

Pac Ngoi cultural tourism village is in Nam Mau commune, Ba Be district, which is the stilt house of the Tay ethnic group on the banks of Leng river adjacent to Ba Be lake. The village has more than 80 households with nearly 400 people.

The Pac Ngoi village now still has some old stilt houses, roofing with yin and yang tiles, unique architectural design. People in this village have lived by growing rice and maize in the river banks and catching shrimp and fish on Ba Be Lake. Nowadays, households here have business activities to serve tourists.

Legend has it that a pagoda is a place of worshiping the Mac deities in the feudal war of the Le Mac dynasty, after losing the war, they ran to Puong cave and thrived there. To commemorate the loyal subjects, the people here set up a temple of the Mac family, but fear of retaliation by the Le army, they changed the name to the Ma temple. An Ma in the Tay language means “beautiful tombs”, the resting place of the Mac gods.

Fairy Lake, Ba Be Lake

Located at the corner of Lake 3 of Ba Be Lake, Fairy Lake, or Ao Tien in Vietnamese is a lovely small lake located in the middle of the limestone basin isolated from the main lake. From the lakeside just a little walk, you can reach the pond. Ponds are fed by groundwater seeping through the surrounding rock, making Ao Tien the same water level as Ba Be Lake.
